Finding the evidence you need through the Victorian Government Library Service
Dear colleagues,
As you may have seen, we just uploaded a guide to using the Victorian Government Library Service (if you missed out, you can find it here: https://go.vic.gov.au/4bdenj ).
At the VGLS, we work hard to build and discover evidence for the VPS every day. We have collections of documents from every department, connections to libraries all over the country, a wide network of experts to draw on, and a team of professionals dedicated to finding you the evidence you need.
We have worked on a wide range of initiatives, inquiries, and projects across the VPS. For example, when the government launched an inquiry into the use of chemicals on state-owned land, the VGLS brought together historical Victorian data from its archives with research from elsewhere in Australia and internationally to build an evidence base. This evidence proved crucial to the final report, and the VGLS received a commendation from the Director of the Secretariat for the inquiry.
We have also helped DPC investigate factors that improve client engagement in Alcohol and Other Drug services, DHHS with information on the over-representation of Aboriginal children in the criminal justice system in Australia and internationally, and a literature review for VicRoads on road safety countermeasures that work across multiple areas. This is only a snapshot; if you need information or evidence to inform your work, please get in touch with us, and we can tell you how we can help.
