How to Use the Editor Toolbar
The Innovation Network uses CKEditor, a rich text editor, that helps you format and structure posts on the Innovation Network.
Accessibility Help
CKEditor’s has a built-in accessibility guide:
- for Windows/Linux: Press Alt + 0
- for Mac: Press Option + 0
This opens a help box with screen reader tips, keyboard navigation, and more.
A description of the CK Editor button functions
The button functions listed below appear in the same order as they do on the toolbar. Each function includes a short description.
Bold
Makes selected text thick and bold for emphasis. Shortcut: Ctrl + B or Cmd + B
Italic
Slants your text. Often used for titles or emphasis. Shortcut: Ctrl + I or Cmd + I
Strikethrough
Draws a line through text to show it's been removed or replaced.
Underline
Adds a line under the text. Shortcut: Ctrl + U or Cmd + U
Decrease indent
Decrease the indent of text.
Increase indent
Increase the indentation of text.
Text Alignment
Align your paragraphs:
- Align left: text starts from the left
- Align centre: centers text
- Align right: aligns to the right
- Justify: evenly spaces text across the line
Heading
Dropdown list to choose between regular paragraph and headings (like Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, etc.).
Remove Format
Clears bold, italic, underlines, and other styles from selected text.
Lists
Create lists:
- Bulleted list: dot-point list
- Numbered list: numbered steps
- List style dropdown: choose start numbers at
Link
Turns selected text into a clickable hyperlink. Option to create link as button.
Anchor
Inserts an anchor in the content. Anchors act as bookmarks. Allows you to create internal links that scroll directly to this part of the page.
Block Quote
Indents and styles text to look like a quote.
Upload Image from computer
Lets you upload an image.
Insert Table
Adds a table with rows and columns.
Horizontal Line
Inserts a line to break up content visually.
Add details
Insert an accordion with a heading and description
Show blocks (H1)
Visually outlines the block-level elements in the editing area e.g., paragraphs, headings etc.
